Things are pretty quiet on the Speculation front right now. We can speculate about how the Patriot League is going to play out, but I kind of did that last night.
I guess the question I've had since the Bucknell game is, did Vlad lose his opportunity at Patriot League Player of the Year with the 2 point performance he put up against the Buffalo Burgers?
I think that he did. His stats are still nothing to scoff at. He's put up the third most points in conference play (behind Navy's Chris Harris and Lehigh's CJ McCollum) and is second in rebounds per game behind Holy Cross's Andrew Keister.
He's a force, and the cornerstone of our team (obviously), but I just don't see him beating out Chris Harris or McCollum or Hall from Lehigh.
If he hadn't had the crappy game against Bucknell it's possible if not likely he'd be leading the league in scoring (he's 25 points behind Chris Harris for the league lead).
There's also the issue of AU not being, well, a winning team this year. I think it's unlikely that the Player of the Year won't come from a team toward the top of the standings.
I don't think Hall has had quite the year everyone has thought he would (McCollum and even Knutson have overshadowed him and Carrington a bit).
So all of this distills down to that yes, I think Vlad will not win Player of the Year, and I think it'll be Chris Harris from Navy.
Alright that's that. Sorry that was a weak Speculation Tuesday. Josh will have the Army preview up very soon!
Pro deo et patria and GO EAGLES!
What doomed Vlad - His 2 point performance came right as Chris Harris had a 40-point game. Ouch
ReplyDeleteGood point!
ReplyDeleteYes, Vlad has virtually no shot at POY. Not only is Harris filling it up but Navy is a contender. There has NEVER been a PL POY who did not play for a contending team.
