Patriot League Check-In Says: IT IS GUARANTEED THE SEASON WILL PLAY OUT THIS WAY

Good evening AU hoops fans! I want to take a moment to thank the AU Hoops community for the rousing conversation that took place in the comment section of yesterday's Good, Bad, and Ugly. It's fantastic to hear everyone's views, and I emphasize everyone.

Before I begin this too much, I want you all to know that I'm writing this on my Blackberry again so if it lacks the usual panache, just be happy there's an entry at all I guess? I dunno. Anyway...

Anyway. It's Monday, so you know it's PL Check-In time! Right now the standings, well, stand at Bucknell and Lehigh at the top at 8-4, Navy and Lafayette at 7-5, our Eagles and the HC Crusaders at 5-7, and Colgate and Army in the basement at 4-8. If the season ended today I'm reasonably sure that AU would be playing Navy as the 6th seed. Don't quote me, I'm trying to figure the tiebreaker in my head right now.

Anyway I looked up everyone else's remaining games, and this is how I think the standings will turn out at the end of the regular season:

Lehigh - 10-4
Navy - 9-5 (2nd seed because they swept Bucknell)
Bucknell - 9-5
Lafayette - 8-6
Holy Cross - 6-8
AU - 6-8 (loses tiebreaker to HC because of RPI)
Army - 4-10 (wins tiebreaker over Colgate because of RPI)
Colgate - 4-10

That would give us a quarterfinal matchup with the Bucknell Buffalo on their home court where they haven't lost a PL tournament game in about half a bajillion years (if I remember correctly).

If you're curious about how I think the season will play out, here it is.

Army: Lose vs. Laf, Lose vs. BU
AU: Lose @Navy, Win vs. Laf
BU: Lose @Leh, Win @Army
Colg: Lose @HC, Lose vs. Navy
HC: Win vs. Colg, Lose @Leh
Laf: Win @Army, Lose @AU
Leh: Win vs. BU, Win vs. HC
Navy: Win vs. AU, Win @Colg

Anyway, that's that.

I'd report on players of the week, but since no Eagles won it, I'm disinclined to tell you how HC's AK34 won it. Damn it. Tricked myself.

In PoY watch news, my new vote for this year's PoY is Lehigh's CJ McCollum. I know that sounds crazy. But I really think he's a dark horse candidate. He's been consistent all year long for Lehigh and has overshadowed both Zahir Carrington and Marquis Hall, both preseason all-PL selections. That in and of itself is a feat. I think he could win rookie of the year AND PoY, no one has been as impressive or as consistent. Not Roemer, not Harris, and not our Impaler. You heard it here first, folks.

Pro deo et patria and GO EAGLES!

  1. I demand the AU Hoops Blog overlords set up a message board so that we can have civilized discussion, perhaps using the untold millions they are making with ads on their site from Boeing.

  2. I use those untold millions to buy beef jerky, though.

We're thinking about adding a message board, we just don't want to throw something up willy-nilly. I think we're getting to a critical mass of people who would use it, so I see it coming sooner rather than later, though. Stay tuned!

  3. As a follow-up, I think we'll probably save the message board launch for shortly before we start gearing up for basketball next season. For now the comments section will suffice, and I'd rather the message board not sit quasi-empty with little coverage during the off-season. That'll give Josh and I some time to work out the kinks of a message board, see how we want it to integrate with the blog, etc. There hasn't been a massive clamor for one just yet; when I hear one it'll kick me into a higher gear to provide one.

Nice to see you here, Matt B. I've heard a lot about you
