Gooooood evening AUHoops fans! If you haven't read through the spirited discussion that took place in the comments section of the last post, I highly suggest you do so as it's a very interesting read. I've got to be honest, I'm having a pretty busy week at work, so you won't get the normal volume of posts. I'll do my best, but no promises. In any event, I have some articles and such I want to share:
First, Bobby Oler at the AU Examiner was kind enough to send over the post-game audio. I'm working on a way to embed that into the post, so bear with me. When I get it, I'll post it. You can check out the Examiner's excellent write-up of the semifinal at Lehigh here.
Next up, WaPo's coverage of the game. Also, their coverage of the women's game.
Here is Rivals' final team report of the season. These are always entertaining, and this one doesn't disappoint as it intimates that Luptak may be the key to next year's success. They don't point out the great ending that Lumpkins had over his last 5-6 games, but what can you expect from a report probably written by an intern.
The last article I want to share is from the DCist. Lumpkins and Vlad both appear in their season end award post. Vlad is ranked as the #2 best player you haven't heard of and also has the #3 best single game performance for his January 27 stomping of Navy where he went for
37 points of AU's 69 total points, 9 rebounds, and 14-15 FT.
Lumpkins was ranked as the #3 most improved player, which I'm okay with because he beat out two Hoyas on the list.
Also, since it's Tuesday, let's speculate about this. This team needs to get bigger. Let's see how much bigger they can get. The total weight of the roster, minus Matt Wilson, is 3,180lbs. for an average of 199 lbs. Post in the comments your guess for the total and average weight of the team's roster next year, NOT INCLUDING Tony Wroblicky. Whoever is closest will win as sweet a prize as I can contrive.
And yes I know this isn't scientific and gross weight does not mean added muscle mass. But unless we see Lumpkins show up with a beer belly, I'm going to guess most of the weight increase is muscle mass. Post your guesses, I'll record them and we'll have a surprise next season when we see who wins.
Speculate away, oh commentariat!
Pro deo et patria and GO EAGLES!
3,220 lbs
