Tonight is the official beginning of our season, Eagles fans! At 7:00 PM we take on the Red Flash of St. Francis University (PA), at their home court of DeGol Arena in Loretto, PA. This is the real deal, folks, this is what actually matters. Those last two games - those were just practice. Somehow this week I've been bestowed with an inordinate amount of things to do, so this is going to be a quick preview at the moment.
Here's what's going down:
- We can totally win this. History is on our side. The last 5 games we've taken on the Red Flash, we walked away with a win, with last year's 67-46 beatdown in Bender particularly memorable.
- We don't have to worry too much about youth, it's pretty even. They have seven true freshmen. We have seven true freshmen. They graduated 5 of 6 starters. We graduated 5 of 6 starters (if you count that Hendra started a few games near the end of last season).
- Our starting lineup tonight is projected to be Hendra, Luptak, Grafft, Lumpkins, and Munoz. It looks like Coach Jones took some pointers from the exhibitions, and he's playing up the big frontcourt presence of Lumpins and Grafft. It helps that St. Francis' team is relatively short, with their tallest at just 6-8. Munoz is starting to really prove himself as well, and not just from the free-throw line (where he completely iced the game for us on Sunday).
- If our level of improvement between the pre-season and now is of the same caliber as between the two exhibition games, they don't stand a chance.
There it is, the quick and dirty preview! Look for much more later on tonight, plus we'll be liveblogging the game starting at 7:30 (NOTE: I'm still at work, but I'll try to get one going as close to 7p as possible, it'll be my first time running one, so bear with me.. - Bill). It doesn't get much better than tha-- wait, it does! St. Francis is being so kind as to STREAM THE ENTIRE GAME FOR FREE. Just click that link and watch us make the Red Flash the Red Splat on the hardwood!
See you soon and GO EAGLES!
Josh
