I know, I know, I owe you recaps

So I know I dropped the ball on not doing recaps for the last two games. At this point, I'm not going to bother, but I'll get back on track with the Cable Car Classic Invitational. Feel free to use this as your comment thread for anything between now and then.

Hope everyone who is celebrating it has a very Merry Christmas. AU students, enjoy your winter break! And to all of the AUHoops fans out there, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We'll talk to you soon, and don't worry, we'll gear up and be prepared for Patriot League play coverage. Things have been crazy with Christmas preparations, etc.

Pro deo et patria and GO EAGLES!

  1. We had some very good play against Pitt. Kudos all around. For long stretches, we were effective in our off the ball movement, screens, the works. When we weere hanging with them or even outscoring them in the second half, it was because we earned it.

My top observation is that the baseline was not very kind to us. Especially if we received a pass on the baseline and then tried to drive baseline. This resulted in bad news for AU once their big man slid over to cut us off. Our 7.5 minute stretch without a basket in the first half featured five turnovers, with two of them coming on the baseline. This is where maybe a jump stop could help.

Also, I am beginning to wonder if Vlad is shooting a poor 3 pt. percentage from the baseline. If he can't see the backboard, he seems more likely to miss.

Pitt has a bunch of players very good at penetration. Lumpkins was often called upon to step up and stop the ball handler. When that happened, we were vulnerable on the boards.

  2. Steve hit it right on the nose. All things considered -- on the road (again), against a very tenacious offensive rebounding team, with Top Ten depth and talent -- the Eagles made a game of it, long enough for us to see that this team has the opportunity to do some very good things in the Patriot League. But they clearly have to play hard all the time . . .
