About Us

AUHoops formed in August 2009 as the premier independent American University Basketball website: for the fans, by the fans. The blog, although not formally affiliated with American University, is written by a group of dedicated student and alumni Eagles who love nothing more than painting themselves blue and screaming their lungs out in Bender Arena every year from November to March.

We seek to spread knowledge, spirit, and excitement about the Eagles while fostering the sense of AU community that we all enjoyed from when we first set foot on campus, no matter when you wore the Red, White, and Blue. Whether that comes in the form of breaking news, analysis, opinions, pictures, video, liveblogs, or (admittedly bad) jokes, it will be posted here.

If you've come across this blog, it's probably because you, like us, cannot get enough AU basketball. This blog is relaxed, but not always pretty, and definitely not always polite. It is our hope that we provide the best place online for AU fans to congregate and chew the fat about our Eagles! That's why we say AUHoops is Where Eagles Basketball Soars!

Meet the Team:

Barechested Bender Bill '09: The mighty founder of AUHoops. Bill is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. An enigma with the unique ability to psychologically destroy the opposition from Section 114, that is.

Joshua Kaplan '11: Red, White, and Blue run through Josh's veins. When Bill first approached him about writing a blog devoted entirely to AU Basketball, an angelic chorus actually came down from the heavens and played the most beautiful tune known to mankind - the AU Fight Song. When not constantly trying to guess which year AU will win the National Championship, Josh manages AUHoops' web design and communications, and even writes every now and then. Josh originally hails from Hartford, CT, where college basketball is the state religion.

Bobby Oler '11: Bobby has covered AU Basketball for the past two seasons for ATV News and the AU Examiner. He also covered the Eagles' 2009 appearance in the NCAA Tournament and their Patriot League Semifinal game at Lehigh in 2010. When he's not in Bender Arena or in class, he covers the Washington Wizards and Capitals on a freelance basis for WTOP radio. Bobby is a native of nearby Gaithersburg, MD.

This Could Be You: New contributors are always welcome. If you would like to become an AUHoops contributor, please contact us, and we'll get you published quicker than you can say, "BEAT HOLY CROSS!"
