Sorry for no liveblog, I'll be taking a break to make dinner at some point so I didn't want to have to worry about administrating it. I know, I know, I'm a huge disappointment.
AU down 24-19 with 7:30 to go. Not shooting well in this stretch at all, and still getting killed on the boards. Still, we're playing them pretty well.
At half, AU makes rebs closer 18-14 PSU, 7 AU TOs, 6 for AU. AU shooting 48% from the field and 60% from 3. The %s are misleading though because we're having trouble getting shots off at all.
Despite the loss, which was not a surprise, I really liked the way AU moved the ball. They kept turnovers low, and they wound up with a good number of assists. Even more encouraging, the assists were well distributed throughout the team, which means the ball handling duties and decision-making are being shared. As it should be for a team without a strong point guard. So I have reason to believe the coaching staff is moving the team in the right direction on that score. Probably our biggest problem was keeping PSU off the boards. Even when our positioning was decent, we had trouble boxing out.
Anyway, a tough opponent for an AU team just beginning to find itself.
10-8 AU early, Vlad with 8 of the 10 points.

ReplyDelete10:38 to go in the first half. 17 all. Vlad with 11 points. AU getting outrebounded thus far, 12-5. Nittany Lions hot from behind the arc.

ReplyDeleteThey're just too big for us to get anything inside on. Additionally, all we do is pass it to screens on the perimeter. 30-19. Ugly.
ReplyDeleteare you watching on the big ten network online? I can't get this crap to work
ReplyDeleteAnnnnd we still can't play perimeter defense. There's another item for this week's Open Letter to JJ.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am, you have to buy the feed though. It's $2.99 for the single game.
ReplyDeleteAU battles back to make it 36-30 at the half. We were down 12 at one point. Vlad with 13 in the first half.

ReplyDelete45-31 now. Vlad trying to do too much. Forcing shots.
ReplyDeleteAt least he will play more than 17 minutes this game. Outcome would have been different if he had more playing time last game.
ReplyDelete76-57 final. I'm starting to dread writing these recaps.

Not sure what JJ is doing with Bersch. He played some solid minutes. His shooting was needed yesterday. 5-21 from three?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. All of a sudden, no Bersch. I'm not okay with that.
