Kataja says sayonara, wait, that's not right, uh, what's "Goodbye" in Finnish again?

According to Derrick Mercer's Facebook page, his time with the Joensunn Kataja has ended.

Via Facebook: "I guess in Finland you finally help the team get their first win, then you get released. Back to the states on Tuesday."

Sorry to hear that it didn't pan out, for sure. We'll keep our fingers crossed here at AU Hoops that he finds another place to showcase his skills.

Pro deo et patria and GO EAGLES!

  2. Goodbye in Finnish is "Nakemiin".
Derrick wasn´t quite what we expected of a player with such a background (PL player of the year etc.). The fact that being last year´s finalist with a 0-5 record did not help either. Derrick did improve but the club decided to make a change for a more experienced -and taller- player.
    All the best for Derrick!

  3. Wait a minute. You gave him three games with teammates he'd never played with before. And you knew how tall he was from game film. Okay letting him go, but give him more than three games.
